Patient Safety Module #4

Setting Up Your Patient Safety Program

This live session on Setting Up Your Patient Safety Program takes 3 hours. It begins with developing, improving communication, and the role of various constituencies. It then goes into the specific elements that a strong patient safety program needs and how to integrate that program with your other quality improvement activities. Topics discussed include:

Culture Assessment?

Reporting incidents

Patient safety walk rounds

Role of the Board

Role of Management

Role of the Medical Staff

Role of the frontline worker

Medication safety

Hospital-Associated Infections

Safe site surgery/procedures

Alarm issues

Unintended consequences

IHI initiatives

Costly complications

The session is delivered via a Webex conference. Technically, there is no limit to the number of people you may have attend the session. However, from a practical standpoint, the session works best when attended by 10-20 people. That promotes an optimal degree of interaction among the participants. You will need a computer with internet connection and a telephone with speakerphone capability in order to access this module. Ability to project the computer screen is essential for groups of more than 4 people. The need for physical proximity of your participants to your speakerphone limits the size of the group somewhat but designating an individual to repeat questions or comments may obviate that problem. Also, keep in mind that your participants do not all need to be at the same location. We can connect simultaneously to your participants at multiple sites.

Cost:  $850 (total cost for the group)
